Hi,

Can anyone point us at a reference(s) or website that deals with sound
propagation in soil and/or rock?

We are trying to get a rough idea of how much attenuation we can expect if
we place noise sources below ground and isolate them with soil versus
concrete walls, etc.

Also looking for guidelines as to sound levels (that are probably subjective
numbers) for human occupation in various settings such as office, etc.

We are looking for first/second order approximation type info.  We are also
looking for pointers to companies/people who do this type of analysis.

Don't know for certain, but try contacting the various national
institutes of metrology - these guys have measured everything, so I'm
sure they will either know themselves, or know in which direction to
point you.

UK National Physical Laboratory - http://www.nlp.co.uk
German Metrology Institute - http://www.ptb.de/index_en.html
