Hey all,

Does anyone have a spare GenRad 1986/1987 calibrator B&K-microphone
adapter that they're looking to sell?

Alternatively, does anyone know where I can buy a B&K adapter? IET Labs
(who inherited GenRad's business) doesn't have any, and a few inquiries
have come up short. I know some consultants who have some, but they
don't want to part with them.

An IET Labs tech suggested taking a GenRad mic adapter and reaming out
the whole to the B&K spec. Since I have access to a B&K adapter, I can
get the dimensions, but for peace of mind I'd rather use the genuine
article.

Have you tried replacing the "O"-ring in the GenRad coupler with one having
a slightly larger diameter hole.  A B&K microphone is slightly greater in
diameter than a GenRad one by virtue of the protection grid. It is only
marginally bigger but it will snag the GenRad O-ring. This only applies to
¼" and ½" micrpohones; 1" are equivalent.

It's not the O-ring, the GR-1/2" hole on the adapter is physically
smaller than the B&K-1/2" hole (owing to the slightly larger B&K
diameter, as you noted). It seems the only realistic option is to drill
out the GR hole.

A follow-up:

First, thanks to everyone that tried to help.

I borrowed an B&K 1/2-inch adapter from a colleague, and I had a machine
shop make copies. I have about a dozen extra adapters that I'm willing
to sell for $50/each + shipping (volume discounts available). If you
know of any old-timers that are in love with their GenRad 1986/1987
calibrators and need some adapters, have them drop me a line.

No warranty is offered - if you don't like it, send it back and I'll
refund the money (minus shipping costs).

Too bad you didn't wait just a bit longer.
Someone recently offered three on eBay for $60.
