Folks,
Does anyone know of any specific research or published papers into the
effects of faulty, damaged or incorrectly worn hearing protection,
particularly for the breaking of seals for ear muffs/ear defenders by
glasses, baseball caps or wires of personal hi-fi etc. Especially
interested in published data rather than heresay, guesstimates etc.
Please post here rather than to my personal e-mail (which is now
defunct).

There is a document where there are some notes about performance of
protection devices on site or "real world". Is "A practical guide to
effective hearing conservation programs in the workplace in 1990"
(July 1999). I hope help you.

The decrease in attenuation depends on the size of the acoustic leak and is
therefore highly variable and situation dependent. There is no general
answer to the question.
