Recommendation needed for portable wideband recorder

I have found a nice house to haunt and don't like to travel.  The immediate
problem is that I need to have an out-of-state client make and record some
measurements and send the recordings to me to analyze using equipment that
is not easily transported.  A walkman type DAT machine would be ideal, but
20KHz signal bandwidth is grossly inadequate.  I need some sort of portable
or semi-portable recorder that has 12-bit dynamic range and a 50KHz (100KHz
preferably) signal bandwidth, with built-in anti-aliasing filter(s).  I
have both Racal and Bruel & Kjaer instrumentation recorders, but neither is
exactly "portable" as far as today's standards are concerned.  Only a
single channel and 2-3 minutes of recording time are required.  Signal
level is +/-3Vpeak.  Any recommendations?

Have you considered using a laptop with a good external soundcard with
sampling frequency 96 or 192 Hz, e.g. FireFace ?

I agree that it is time to examine closely the sound board/hard rive
approach to sound recording.. (Many children are walking around with
more bandwidth and drive space than we adults ever dreamed of a few
years ago).

Fostex FR2 is better than semi-portable and does 24-96 to flash card.
Seems to be a decent approximation to the questionee's wished stats. It
even sounds good when used for location music recording.
