Hi,
Another one paying with my head. I know there is rules of thumb for
wavelength much larger than radius etc but does anyone know of a
reference that is slightly more detailed? I am interestd to know what
the upper and lower frequency for reasonable diffusion from a semi or
part cylinder is.

Andrew,

You might try Cox & D'Antonio, "Acoustic Absorbers and Diffusers:
Theory, Design, and Application."  Here's a link:

There's ample information about diffusion from semicylinders.  Not to
mention absorber and diffuser design in general.  A truly great book.
