I need to reduce the noise from my condo ceiling mounted air handler.
The air handler does not vibrate. My condo is 900 square feet. The
noise is caused from the ceiling intake vent which is 6' X 1'. I think
the vent is too large. People with other condo's in the building
reduced the vent size with ceiling tiles. Any other suggestions?

We first have to define what the noise is that you are hearing.  Is it the
noise of the fan coming out the opening, or is it the noise of airflow
through the opening?  If you reduce the size of the opening, the airflow
noise will increase.  But if it is the noise of the fan, reducing the
opening could reduce it some.  However, more benefit could be obtained from
careful use of sound absorption such as ceiling tiles to reduce the noise.
It is not just a matter of reducing the opening.
