For my final year project I have to make a "Public awareness of science"
video, 20 minutes long, on a topic of my groups choice. Trouble is, I am
the only biochemist in a group of psychology students, and it's been hard to
find some middle ground.
Some ideas have been...
- Blood - from donor to recpient, processes involved in donation and
transfusion (my first choice)
- The mind - this is really broad and could cover body language, learning
disabilities, language etc.
- Medical traing in the UK - quite vague, but could get help from local
medical school
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated, time is running out and I'm
losing 3 to 1!

If you really are a biochemist and know something about molecular
biology, what about "GM foods, the myth and the reality"? You could
make sure the reality part is real, the psychologists can handle the
myth.

I'd find that a really interesting topic, but last year's group already
covered the GM issue, and we were advised against repeating previous subject
areas. Thanks for the idea though!

There is always cloning. Or "The healthfulness of natural foods:
naturally occurring plant toxins". Or "Is the low carbs-high fat diet
nutritionally sound?" or "are chemically synthesized vitamins
equivalent to natural vitamins". There are lots of misunderstandings
of science applied to health that you could explore profitably using
your biochemistry background.

why not browse some lists of news stories, together, and see what
interests you as a group. You could browse some magazines or journals,
whatever is in your library, or some online newsfeeds, such as nature
science update -- or even google news.
