Can't you just use gas chromatography? Much easier!

Heat a platinum wire or gauze red hot. Hold it above the (warmed)
solution vapor. If you smell formaldehyde in the rising effluent then
there was methanol.

Do you really think, that this will work?.......ahahahaha...
The sweet smells of Emmenthaler, Gruyere, Kaltbrunner
and Kirsch will overwhelm any trace of CH2O.
Also,why does jussy have the feeling that fondue contains
(added) methanol? The Swiss have very strict food laws,
more stringent then our FDA/USDA's.
But to make you guys happy I shall perform this test, next
time this culinary feast occurs.........lest I forget......ahaha..
