Query about EF and Plan Leitz objectives

Please can someone tell me the difference between Leitz EF and Plan
achromatic 160 mm objectives? Also, did they co-exist or did one
preceed the other?

The EF ("Even Field") objectives were make at the same time as the plans.
EF was a way to cover up the fact that these were Achromats with a fancier
name.  Now the Plans preceded the EF by quite a period of time but for the
time the EF were produced they were produced along with the Plans.  If you
can choose between them I'd jump on the Plans though my faves are the NPL
Flourotars.
