A new challenging situation for the gemmologists:
they will soon be summoned to distinguish synthetic
colourless moissanite from diamond.

A good test seems to burn the latter. J.J.

Pawn shops were in a panic initially over Moissanite - though now there
is a decent 'wand' that can help distinguish it from diamond after using
the 'other' wand to first rule out CZ. Gemologists just look for the
extreme double refraction.

Hardly new. Not even particularly challenging. Diamond is denser,
harder, and the refraction is drastically different.
