Hi.
Would anyone happen to have the July/August 1973 issue of "American
Mineralogist" (vol. 58, no. 7/8) on hand, and be willing to part with
it?
The publisher wants seventy-five dollars for it, which is a bit out of
my
price range at the moment - if anyone could make me a better offer,
that
would be fabulous.
(I'm actually just looking for a single, specific article, but I'm
willing
to purchase the entire issue.)
Thanks,
- David Prokopetz.

Agh - I forgot that rec.crafts.jewelry is moderated, and the moderator kinda
nuked my Reply-To and Followup-To headers when approving the message. Use

Hallo David,
Seventy-five dollars! But from your initial posting I gather that you
are really interested in
pages 727-733.
Does the publisher also ask a lot of money for a 7-page reprint?
(just curious).

Jaap

Yes, those are the pages. However, they don't do partial reprints; the
smallest they'll offer is a full reprint of the July/August 1973 combined
issue, and they've made it clear they're not interested in negotiating any
further. I get the impression that they actually want to deal in entire
volumes - even a single issue appears to be pushing it.

D.P.:
Another way to approach this would be to visit the interlibrary loan
department at your
local library. They can see who might have that old an issue and
determine if they are willing
to make a photocopy for the amount you want to spend. If the ILL
functionary is competent and
likes you, good things can be done.

Heh - tried it already, I'm afraid. However, I have the misfortune of
living in Regina, Saskatchewan, home of the most indifferent,
passive-aggressive librarians on the planet; the last time I put in an ILL
inquiry, it vanished into the system with nary a ripple, and I haven't heard
from it since, despite repeated follow-ups. I'm not anticipating better
results this time, either.
