As a tribute to your grandfather, refrain from selling. As soon as you
will get rid of it, you will regret fer ever. After all, it's perhaps the
best item in your heritage!...
...and since you seem completely candid in this business, beware of sharks...

You can take it to a reputable jewler, and he can tell you stuff about it,
he can test for copper, Gold etc. weight it and so on, for free a lot of the
time.
(sell on ebay - put a high reserve on it, so it dosent sell if price is too
low for you)

Not any jeweler around this neighbohood I know will do rock testing for
free or otherwise. They are set up to do assay work on refined jewelry,
not ore.
If so interested, you'd have a better chance of determining what you
have by going to a rock shop or looking for a lab which does assay.
However, ore assay is usually destructive-- i.e., going to destroy at
least part of the sample.
Is this what you want?
