I am a corundum collector, interested in understanding the
environmental factors which influence the habit (shape) of corundum
crystals. (Other characteristics, such as size or color, are not
issues of concern). A string on this topic was posted for the
"sci.geo.geology" discussion group (see title there for more detail on
this query), but on second thought this group is probably more
appropriate.
What is already known about this relationship? We are working on it.
Our website, www.corunduminium.com, shows a lot of specimens from our
collection, and can be be visited to see patterns which may lead to
theories. Thanks for any information or references you may give! Will

It would be interesting to display on your site the corundum plates of the
"Goldschmidt's Atlas der Krystallformen."
The relations between crystall habits and geologic environment are very
complex. A part of the area is/was covered by the denomination
"typomorphism".
Russians and Germans were specialists of the field long ago.
