I have a Pentax digital camera with 3 times optical zoom. It's not
enough. I would like to double this at maximum zoom. The cameral lens
makers I've contacted don't make the lens I want and won't tell me how
to pick out a lens which can have the mount modified to fit the
camera. I have a machine shop so making any knid of lens holder will
be easy for me. But how do I find out what kind of lens to look for?
What do I need to know about the Pentax camera lens to try to find a
lens that can be adapted?
Thanks for any help.

Tiffen (and others) make supplemental telephoto lenses. Go to a good camera
store to find the thread size of your camera.

Thanks Jeff, I already contacted Tiffen. My first choice actually. My
camera has no threads on it around the lens. I will probably build
some sort of lens holder which uses the 1/4-20 tripod mount thread to
hold a bracket to hold the lens.

Try posting the question in rec.photo, digital, if you haven't already.
Mention the particular Pentax model as well, you'll probably get some
suggestions.

Someone I know has a Sony digital that does not have threads on the
lens, but there is an adapter that mounts onto the body, makes sort of
a tunnel over the existing lens and the accessory telephoto lens
affixes to the front of that
