I would like to preserve some various insects in a clear
encapsulation. What could I use form a generic hardware store?

Clear polyester resin with UV-resistant additives to deal with solar
exposure would
be a standard choice. Mix the catalyzed resin, paint it on the
specimen to avoid
trapped air bubbles and then immerse the insect in catalyzed resin
poured into a
suitable geometric form. Before pouring the catalyzed resin in the
form, you would
want to either use agitation or vacuum to remove air bubbles from the
resin.
