Photos show a petrified human femur embedded in slate
that was excavated during an open-pit mining operation in
Pennsylvania's anthracite region:

You know, Abraham Lincoln once asked,

"If you call a dig's tail a leg, how many legs does a dog have?"

 "Five," came the answer.

Lincoln smiled, "Nope, four. Calling a tail a leg, doesn't make it a leg."

You can insist that the earth is the center of the universe because to say
otherwise violates scripture (as Galileo discovered!), and you can insist
that evolution is false and some silly god created man 4000 years ago and
just made the world look very, very, very, very old simply to be
malicious -- but like the dog's tail, saying it doesn't make it so. The sad
part of all this, of course, is that Creationists and their fundamental
religious partners manufacture facts and amplify small voids or ambiguities
in this theory or that theory in order to deny evolution and justify their
belief in god. It is sad, because, even when they win, they fail. They fail
because if they must resort to distortion and deception and lies to
discredit evolutionary theory all they have won is what the 17th century
church won -- a victory for dogma in the defense of superstition and
scientific illiteracy.

Hence, it is a waste of productive time to even engage in this debate.

Uh huh... Who exactly said that this fossil was of a human femur? The
model next to the item was only barely similar. If this is supposed to
poke some sort of hole in some theory of science, it's a pretty poor
effort. Like all of the others I've come across.

note, sbp only.
Ed has been in and out of this NG for years.  In the late 90's he had
a then grad student get a sample of one of his other pieces and do a
thin section and scan of it.  Ed and his counter part were all up for
several weeks until the results came in, common rock, then it was
about how he did the sample wrong.  Said poster long since got his
degree and teaches for one of the schools in the US.  If you see that
name starting a thread, just understand that he will not, can not and
never has, listened to any voice which does not agree with his.  At
the point the first round of flame wars started here, there was much
talk of forming a moderated group, but no one pulled it off.  Since
the major noise issues come and go, you just learn to tune them out.
I only saw this post cause I did not include my old kill files when I
upgraded my box this year.  Suffice it to say that I skim the group
any more, to much noise not enough content.
