What is wrong with Greek names?

Seriously, it might be useful if you specified what taxonomic level you'd
like to have described. Any crab found would be a member of Eukaryota,
Animalia, Invertebrata, Arthropoda, Crustacea, Decapoda, etc, etc, etc....ad
nauseum....If you want a generic and specific name (traditional binomial
classification) more details about the vermin would be useful.

Cheers

Any common name would be fine... such as we call some dinosaurs
Brontosaurus...

It's for one line...

"Look! It's a XXXXXX crab."   That's all I need it for.

My guess is that there are no fossil crabs that would be found on the
Mississippi banks. I'm imagining that any exposures are likely to be way
too old to have crabs in them. All this is without consulting a geologic
map, mind you. But crabs evolved relatively recently compared with many
other sorts of invertebrates you could have mentioned.

It probably won't be a crab (a decapod crustacean).  If you are in the
Twin Cities area, it's probably Ordovician in age, but it could be a
bit younger or older.  There are some Cretaceous exposures in
Minnesota that could have real crabs, but not along the Mississippi I
think.  Try this  web site and see if anything there looks familiar:
