The Natural History Museum Of Los Angeles County will be sponsoring a
paleontological field trip to famous Red Rock Canyon State Park,
California, during the weekend of April 29-May 1, 2005. Detailed
information about the trip can be found at
http://www.nhm.org/expeditions/rrc/trip.html ;this is a first-come,
first-served reservation system, so I'm not sure whether openings for
the trip are still available. The Red Rock Canyon district, of course,
yields one of the greatest accumulations of roughly 13 to 7
million-year-old vertebrate fossils in the western United States.
Participants in the field trip will help professional vertebrate
paleontologists scour the Red Rock badlands in search of fossil bones.
It sounds like a super-educational,highly enjoyable experience, to be
certain.

Of course I live in TN and the school year isn't up yet but it does sound
like fun.
