I found this piece of petrified wood with something peculiar embedded in one
side.  I have attached a link with detailed photos of it.  Please help me in
identifying it.

I agree with david - may just be an artifact of preservation or
erosion, possibly is a knot or some other natural variation in the
original grain but hard to tell from the photos.
