$$                   Digital Vs Analog sundial.
$$ A SUN-dial is a *REAL* "TiME-clocker", not a *FREQUENCY COUNTER*.
$$ Where "ATOMiC-tics" are DiGiTAL ..a SUN-dial "clocker" is ANALOG.

Google "analemma"

$$              The analemma ("EQUATiON-of-TiME"):
$$  Set up a large magnifing glass on a standing pivot and burn
$$  an arc of SUN TiME in a piece of board ..flat on the ground.
$$  Do this the SAME PERiOD every sunny day through a full year.
$$  Save and date each piece of board and ..after the year ends,
$$  lay out all the pieces in a series, following the curvature.
$$  This will form a closed FiGURE-of-EiGHT ..an ANALOG "clock".
$$  [One loop of this figure-of-eight has much wider curvature].

$$            TiME is analog ..FREQUENCY is digital.

$$                      The SHADOW knows.
