R F Streater has a couple pages called "Lost & Regained Causes in
theoretical physics". I'd enjoy to hear your oppinions about them.

It is interesting reading, but everyone should make up their own mind
about how lost the causes are. Physicists probably differ widely in
their assessment of what is promising. And as Streater's cases show,
a lost cause can be regained if it falls into the hand of someone
competent and imaginative.

Streater also has pages about theoretical physicists which are
interesting to read:

Another site of stories about physicists is
   http://www2.physics.umd.edu/~yskim/home/storie.html
And the Nobel lectures and biographies of most winners of the
Nobel prize, available from
   http://nobelprize.org/physics/laureates/
are worth reading, too.
