What's it all about, Alfie?

Maybe I should have entitled this "What's it all about, Mitch?"
Is human existence really only about humans doing things to keep
existing?  Is that it--everything we do is just to continue our
existence and that of our species?  There is no other goal, just to
exist?
If so we're as useless as that little toy that when you turn it on a
hand comes out of a box and turns itself off.
Maybe we exist to find a TOE and that is our purpose.  But no, that is
just a result of our instinct to find out everything about the
enviornment so we can continue eating and sleeping and making babies
so that we can continue etc.etc.

One should not search for the meaning of life
The answer to the meaning of life is too profound to be known and
understood.
You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.
The meaning of life is to forget about the search for the meaning of
life.
One should live the life given to you instead.

Life has no meaning
Life or human existence has no real meaning or purpose because human
existence occurred out of a random chance in nature, and anything that
exists by chance has no intended purpose.
Life has no meaning, but as humans we try to associate a meaning or
purpose so we can justify our existence.
There is no point in life, and that is exactly what makes it so
special.
Life is a bitch, and then you die.
Life sucks and in the end you die.

I do have an sbcglobal.net address----would that make me as cool as
you?  When I was in high school I bought "top of the line" clothes
from Sears; I cited Reader's Digest in college essay tests, and I was
a real Nixon fan.  There, you can feel special all day long, now.

Not bad for an intellectual.;-)

Of course, he used the wrong premise, being 'his' and 'thoughts'.

The details are like the clues in a treasure hunt, but they are laid
out in a circle, which is why he detected that space is curved.

Of course a helix looks circular when viewed from above.

If everything reduces to Darwinian meaninglessness, why did you post
this?

Because I thought one of the ROM regulars would post a reply
explaining "the meaning of existence" and why my life is something of
cosmic significance.

Life is meant for the spiritual journey. You are the meaning of why
God created the universe.

Getting a bit confused, are we?

Occidental, you always seem to strike your thumb! It may be that
David, Jane, Martin and Julia, even you, independent observer that you
are, are part of the universe - not simply a sporadic spark thrown off
idly by larger processess. Are you a shill or a troll? I doubt it, but
I wish to make an important distinction between Osmium and you:

You have decided what is true; Osmimum finds the universe a puzzle,
which it is!

If I do, it is because your head is not available.

The problem is, *you* are part of the universe.

QUOTE
False dilemma
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The informal fallacy of false dilemma (also called false dichotomy,
the either-or fallacy, or bifurcation) involves a situation in which
only two alternatives are considered, when in fact there are other
options.

Reading not your strong suit? I was simply following the premise laid
down by Osmium. To do so, I do not have to agree with it.

One of several hereabouts.

True. It's a mistake to indulge them.

Osmium asked questions only. A question defines a universe of
discourse, and is not a proposition. He gets a bit cross with the way
this group is now, as do I! I don't know any remedies for fruitcakes,
but 'f.cking fruitcake' would alliterate! Anyway, yesterday bought my
staff a HUGE bramley apple pie for our tea this afternoon, GMT+1. It
was coming up to its sell by date, so I sailed not by it but bought
it! 65% off. They know I have a Scottish grandfather, so the label
remains in place!
