Desertphile - 22 Nov 2008 18:45 GMT Is there a talk.physics newsgroup? My NNTP server does not list one, though I would think a moderated physics newsgroup woulod already exist. I have an interest in physics, and trying to pick the non-kook articles out of the much, much larger kook articles in this newsgroup takes a great deal of time.
I make YouTube videos on the subject of "free energy," and I am tired of doing so. I am not a physicist, nor am I educated. I would love to see people actually educated in the subject make YouTube videos debunking "free energy" claims.

This is a moderated physics newsgroup. There are others.

As an afterthough, if you attempt to post anything about Free Energy on sci.physics.research, be sure that your "Free Energy" term refers to the thermodynamics parameter having this name, otherwise the group moderator might be tempted to "cut you a new one". The moderated science newsgroups are best read for a year, before attempting to post to them.
In a way this strike me as funny, since 10 years ago sci.physics operated at this level, where even physicist hesitated a bit prior to posting. Today you can see what the "Dumbing down of America" coupled with the fact that even a total idiot can now post to Usenet has led to.
As a consequence, today all serious scientific discussion groups are now moderated, and to spare the work of the moderator, tend to conceal the fact that they even exist. Trust me, there are many such Newsgroups, that address just about every scientific subject.
Now. simply in kindess, study university level physics for a few years and you will first learn the language of physics, plus learn where the real physics discussion newsgroups are today. If you current NNTP server does not reveal them to you, then all I can suggest is that you need a better news server.

I suppose this newsgroup (sci.physics) has become the talk.origins of physics. There was a time when the sci.* newsgroups were mostly meat and damn little nutcases.

Greetings. I am self-educated on phytsics (Newtonian and electromagnetic) but I would like to have an actually physicist or two make YouTube videos debunking "free energy." I have made dozens of such videos and I have done a good job as far as I can tell, but I am bloody tired of it. The "Free energy" cultists in YouTube are much like Creationists, Scientology customers, and Moonies when it comes to trying to educate them on the subject.

I enjoyed it very much. ========================= Have you got a touch of the Sun too? How does *he* estimates the age of the petroglyphs at 3700 BCE? *I* estimate them at 2645.68 BCE, so who's right and how shall we prove it?

Er, many tribes in what is now Utah, Nevada, Arizona, and California used charcol to highlight pictographs and petroglyphs, and that charcol can still be detected.

Kooks are persistent, and once you have a large list of them that get filtered out, the task of maintaining the list is easy.
I recommend using a newsreader that can filter out not only kooks, but also replies to kooks. At the moment, 40tude Dialog will do this for you if you're using Windows, and I believe there are some other newsreaders that will do it if you're running Linux, but I'd have to do a search. Also, Thunderbird and Seamonkey should have this feature in the near future, due to the work of Joshua Cranmer ( see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11054 )

if anyone else wants to try it out. Next step for me is to figure out how to import my killfile from Dialog.

At least 130% randament.
He should get a honorary physics diploma for this?
I think the Einsteinians need him?
His material is at least 3 times as convincing as "what the bleep". hahahahahahaa
Anyway, now you see what the free energy inventors have to keep up with? HAHAHAHAHA
I see no way to refute his arguments? aaahahaha

Yesterday I installed NewsProxy and I spent an hour loading the killfile with the list of kooks here in sci.physics. Then I retrieved new articles. Out of 466 articles, 60 of them got past the twit filter. That's a high twit-to-sane-person ratio. Now the newsgroup is readable.
