It sounds like many of the people who post messages here have REALLY
interesting projects and facilities.

My 12 year-old son is interested in physics and has an aptitude for
math.  I'd rather see him exploit this aptitude than end up like I am,
interested but uneducated.  If anyone here works on the east coast and
has an interesting project and would be gracious enough to let him see
it in person, I would really appreciate it.  He's homeschooled so we
could work around most schedules.

Thanks.

I'm not on the east coast, but there are a number of facilities
located along the east coast and in all likelyhood, those facilities
offer tours. A few of those are:

 (1) Brookhaven National Laboratory  (Brookhaven, NY)

 (2) National Synchrotron Light Source (also at Brookhaven)

 (3) Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (also at Brookhaven)

 (4) Tri-Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) (Duke University)

 (5) High Intensity Gamma Source (also at Duke)

 (6) Free Electron Laser Laboratory (also at Duke)

 (7) Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA) (Maryland)

 (8) Wright Nuclear Structure Laboratory (Tandem Van de Graff) (Yale)

 (9) National Institute of Standards and Technology (Maryland)

(10) The Smithsonian (Washington DC)

Thanks!

We have been to Goddard, but have never thought about NIST...  We will
try to get there next week.

Thanks, but it kids under 18 aren't allowed to visit the accelerator.
Too bad because we live near DC and it looks so intersting!..
