Hello. I'm looking for Carboxylic acids purification technics.
It sounds a little stupid, but isn't easy to find right procedures. I
work with beta lactamics derivatives, and I have to obtain very very
very very pure compound to work with the enzyme.
With some of my compounds I can take the easy way, a recrystalization
or a preparative TLC when I've enough quantity of compound. But others
are not crystalizable, or the quantity isn't enough, or the reaction
crude is very dirty.....and so on. In this cases is when I want to have
other procedures (ionic exchange, crystalization as a salt, sublimation
as a salt,.....) to do my work.
If you could give me an answer I'll be pleased.
Thanks.
PS: sory by my english (isn't my languaje).

You might want to try using Isolute PE-AX ion exchange columns
(available from Argonaut). More info is on the argonaut website

Probably the only technique I can think of that doesn't involve
repeated recrystalisation (though that might be a good, strait forward
thing to try) you could try a quatrinary amonium hydroxide extraction,
the process is VERY wastful and usualy has to be combined some other
techinique but the ONLY good thing about it is that you KNOW that the
impurtities are acids.
