There is a chunk of quartz in our garden that came from the local area (well, reasonably close). It appears unusual to me in that it is rather vesicular. I don't recall seeing this type of composition in quartz. The pores look similar to what one might see in pumice, except

When a volcano erupts, it leaves a "Crater", and generally the mountain remains as with Crater Lake. When a "Super" volcano erupts itt leaves a "Caldera"such as Yellowstone and Long Valley and the mountain is gone, caved in on the empty magma chamber.
