Layman has a Sonic Boom question29 Feb 2004 02:14 GMT3
All,
Hi. I'm just a non-physics type who has a question. It isn't an
important question, it is kind of frivolous. It involves sonic booms.
The question is also pretty dorky.
Help needed calculating exp horn input impedance27 Feb 2004 20:19 GMT2
I'm trying to write an applet to make plots of input impedance
and frequency response for conical and exponential horns of various
sizes. The only reference I have is Harry F Olson's
commonly-available-in-bookstores book "Music, Physics and Engineering."
Sound Limits of Earth Atmosphere?27 Feb 2004 07:47 GMT6
What is the upper limit of the frequency response of earth atmosphere?
How much headroom does earth's atmosphere have?
What is the dynamic range of earth's atmosphere?
What is the signal-to-noise ratio of earth's atmosphere?
Acoustic transverse Doppler shift?25 Feb 2004 00:01 GMT17
I've been looking in modern physics textbooks for a reference to
the acoustic transverse Doppler effect.
In other words, the Doppler shift that you'd expect to hear if the
source was stationary wrt the air, and you were moving past at v m/s,
sound characterics of biological cells24 Feb 2004 13:43 GMT2
Could anyone indicate me the sound speed and density
of a biological cell ? and also the sound speed and density
of a cancerous cell ?
Or does anyone have a book title and author or a web site
MBSL23 Feb 2004 22:51 GMT1
I want to build a MBSL ( A Multi Bubble Sonoluminescence Experiment).
Now I need Information how I can do that.
I don't want a SBSL Experiment this is quite more difficult to build.
That is because for MBSL you can use some kind of Ultrasound cleaning bath.
SLAT TYPE HELMHOLTZ RESONATOR FORMULA19 Feb 2004 04:34 GMT7
I made a summary which I posted in several groups with credit to all
contributors.
This is more important than it seems at a first glance.
Until now I couldn't find even 1 single correct calculator on the net (HTML,
Noise and vibration - legal limits for flora, fauna and wildlife18 Feb 2004 23:11 GMT3
I am currently producing a planning application for a development in
the UK.  The council requires the following
"Ascertain that noise and vibration are within the (legal) limits of
tolerance to flora and fauna, particularly protected species, Red Data
Basic acoustic properties calculator17 Feb 2004 17:53 GMT14
Newbie posting...
In order to develop my own understanding of basic room acoustics, I
have put together this Excel spread sheet that will calculate various
useful values about the acoustic properties of a rectilinear room.

Acoustic room profiling help requested - measurements and data interpretation15 Feb 2004 11:26 GMT5
I'd like to get your suggestions on a good way to look at acoustic room
response for purposed of equalization.
I'm thinking that I can play some wideband tones, which get recorded into a PC
via a microphone.
good info...14 Feb 2004 19:04 GMT2
There is a site that has free online textbooks. There are only 5 or 6
physics texts, but maybe it will save someone out there money.

Interesting questions about seashells12 Feb 2004 21:15 GMT4
I got the following question by mail:
My name is [...]. I am 10 years old and I am working on a project from
my science fair at school.
My original idea was going to be an invention: which was to see if I
Infrasounds and windows12 Feb 2004 08:29 GMT2
I had trouble sleeping over the last weeks because of a
very-low-frequency sound that seemed to come from inside my
appartment. It is a low humming sound; in fact the frequency is so low
that my girlfriend doesn't hear it. (My hearing is better than hers.)
Sad Commentary12 Feb 2004 01:21 GMT5
It is a sad commentary that some purportedly respected consultants and
academics are still poised and ready to crawl out from under their rocks to
at a moment's notice in order to unleash unprovoked, insulting personal
attacks upon the ghost of someone who has not posted to this ...
