can anyone give me some info on some acoustics engineering schools,
mainly focusing on audiology, psychoacoustics and electrical/audio
acoustics.

GenRad 1986/1987 B&K adapter30 Dec 2004 03:23 GMT5
Hey all,
Does anyone have a spare GenRad 1986/1987 calibrator B&K-microphone
adapter that they're looking to sell?
Alternatively, does anyone know where I can buy a B&K adapter? IET Labs
Perforated metal ceiling absroption24 Dec 2004 03:44 GMT3
I am currently building an EASE model for a building that is using a
perforated sheet metal ceiling, minimum 25% Open Area with no backing
material. The main purpose of the ceiling is to hide the duct work in
the void etc.
equal loudness, 1/3 octaves, and adding phons22 Dec 2004 04:44 GMT1
i am trying to piece together a spreadsheet to model noise (just boring
old 1/3 octave noise sources to be combined with 1/3 octave background
noise and/or transmission loss data, etc.)...  nothing so formal, just
intended to grant an idea.
Simulating room acoustics21 Dec 2004 16:25 GMT2
I'm currently writing a program to simulate
the acoustics of my room and was hoping to
get some help from people more knowledgeable
than I.
Windscreen tests, wind effects21 Dec 2004 16:25 GMT10
Does anyone know of a method to measure the wind induced noise of
windscreens, (noise arriving at the protected microphone), especially
practical test methods in use for that measurement today?

Acoustic cinder block (properties?)21 Dec 2004 14:25 GMT12
The gym in a local elementary school was constructed
with "acoustic cinder blocks" where every other block
or so has three slits (by eye, slits are maybe 10 cm
by 1 cm)
acoustophoresis21 Dec 2004 09:11 GMT1
I am interested in learning more about acoustophoresis.  All google turns up
are the  "reader's digest" versions of  this field.  Anyone know of a more
"meat and potatoes" reference (preferably a book) about this topic?
thanks,
New thread- doppler21 Dec 2004 02:34 GMT10
I pick up the discussion from Peter Larson's message of Last October,'04:
"According to Art Ludwig's analysis of Doppler distortion produced by a
piston in an infinite tube, there are fundamental differences between IM
produced by Doppler and IM produced by a quadratic mechanical ...
Sound in Solids18 Dec 2004 18:40 GMT25
Could someone please explain why sound travels at different speeds
depending on frequency through a solid, but not through air?  Of
course the easy answer is that the wavelength changes (for all but one
frequency), but why does that happen?
Advice about dampening jewellery-making sounds!14 Dec 2004 23:11 GMT3
Hello.  I'm hoping someone can provide me with a bit of advice.  I'm a
contemporary jeweller and have just moved into a new apartment which has
wooden floors - cheap imitation ones, but apparently problematic for the
people downstairs, nonetheless!  To make matters worse, the room ...
Sound dampening with fibreglass13 Dec 2004 22:40 GMT6
I conducted an experiment to measure the sound dampening properties of
various materials, including fibreglass. Interestingly, the experiment
with fibreglass actually amplified the sound which I found strange.
Does anyone know what was likely to cause this? I was thinking that it
STC vs Rw13 Dec 2004 22:37 GMT2
just a little question: is the rule of maximum 8dB deviation under the
curve still in use in STC-rating? For Rw-rating, which I'm familiar
with, this rule disapeared in the last standard revision. it's just
maximum total 32dB under the curve that tells now.
Need some advice13 Dec 2004 22:20 GMT5
This is my first time here and I'm wondering if I can get some advice.  I
live in a New York City apartment.  Several months ago, a new neighbor moved
in upstairs and brought a stereo system in with her.  The volume at which
she plays it is not a problem.  The problem I am having is ...
Transmission Loss Data13 Dec 2004 22:07 GMT6
I was wondering what sources of information other's here use for TL
data.  I know several software programs come with databases.  I have
also seen the USG Acoustician Binder (50+ gypsum construction tests
from Riverbank), Saflex/Monsanto Binder (many window tests, mostly
