Can anyone tell me if there is a simple way to tell if a white powder
is magnesium oxide or calcium oxide?
The background is that we are doing an experiment in which we try to
produce a calcium vapour in a vacuum chamber.  We do this by heating a

looking for oil-soluble fluorescence dye for silicon oil in microfluidic research27 Apr 2004 13:54 GMT3
Dear Chemistry Experts,
I have a little question about the oil-soluable fluorescence dye for
silicone oil used in one of microfluidics reseach.  Before I also worked on
water based solution, I used Rhodamine B dye or FITC.  But these two don't

BECKMAN HPLC 166 HELP19 Apr 2004 16:34 GMT1
I have a 166 detector that gives me the "sample side blocked error"
when I try to calibrate.   Has anyone had this error before.  It began
when we could not set the wavelenght, it would keep returning to 0.  I
have done the following.

ION PAIRING, and its effect on bp elevation13 Apr 2004 12:11 GMT2
I am considering doing a highschool research project on "ion pairing,"
and its effect on fp depression and bp elevation in solutions.
Mohammed Farooq directed me to a website which mentions ion pairing:

Air purification06 Apr 2004 23:47 GMT4
We need purified air for sampling volatile emissions.
This is done in a thermostatted room. Now, it appears
that we have a lot of C15-C16 in the air, very likely
originating from the thermostatting device (oil and/or grease?).
