Li ion for a car battery?29 Jun 2004 23:59 GMT5
Would Li-ion make a good hybrid car battery?
Would it need to be kept warm somehow to avoid below freezing?
Why did not Toyota consider these when they went with their NiMH.
I have heard Li-ion has the potential to be lower cost and higher
Another idea for nonrechargeables29 Jun 2004 04:00 GMT5
hey, I wonder if it's possible to drill a small hole in an alkaline battery so
that when you try to recharge them the gases and biproducts can escape safely
(and you probably need to add water too, since hydrogen and oxygen will
escape). Any ideas? I know it sounds stupid to ...
Another question about NiMH Hybrid batteries29 Jun 2004 00:03 GMT7
Do all batteries only tolerate so much deep cycling?
I ask because I think the way the NiMH batteries in the Prius work,
they are never really cycled very far down.  Because of this they last
for years.
How is better energy density achieved?28 Jun 2004 14:35 GMT2
A couple of years ago NimH penlites had a capacity of around 700 mAh, then
they went thru 1200, 1800, 2100 and yesterday I held the first 2400 mAh
penlites in my hand! It is truly amazing! How is this done?
I assume by creating more electrode surface area within the battery?
COOH on carbon surface28 Jun 2004 02:37 GMT4
For some product we are developing, we need to create carboxylic
groups on some carbon electrode surface. Since I am not a chemist, I
was wondering if some can give me some suggestions on how to acheive
this. I prefer a wet chemistry (soaking and/or washing in certain
Charging deep-cycles with inverter & auto?27 Jun 2004 01:54 GMT3
I use a mobility scooter w/two group size U1 (pseudo?) deep-cycle
(either AGM or gel) batteries: 12V, 32ah, wired in series.
On road trips, away from AC, I need a way to recharge the batts [which
can
panasonic ev battery specifications26 Jun 2004 22:18 GMT1
I am currently developing a laboratory for Walla Walla College that
will study the interaction between fuel cells and batteries. I am
interested in Panasonic EV's NiMH Prismatic Module because it is
already being used in the Prius. In order to use these batteries as an
Electric Vehicles Are Here26 Jun 2004 02:55 GMT35
I've been reading alot of the EV related posts and I'm disappointed to
see that the trolls and less knowledgable posters are trying to
convince people of the impracticality of electric vehicles.  If the
major automobile manufacturers wanted to sell electric vehicles, they
Be Aware of this New Scam25 Jun 2004 19:57 GMT1
Don't you hate those homeless people who ask to exchange 4 quarters for a
dollar, and it's only after they're out of reach that you realize those 4
"quarters" were actually foreign coins they apparently got from a nearby bank
that were worth considerably less? I got suckered by this ...
Over Potential of two Cu electrodes?24 Jun 2004 07:48 GMT5
If you have two Cu electrodes then n1-n2=0.  Does this mean that there is no over potential value when using two Cu electrodes?

Difference between Alkaline and RAM24 Jun 2004 03:32 GMT3
What are the chemical differences between regular non-rechargeable alkaline
batteries (Energizer or Duracell) and rechargeable alkaline batteries
"Renewal"? Why can't regular alkaline batteries be recharged as efficiently and
safely as Renewal?
parallel and series primary batteries23 Jun 2004 21:34 GMT4
I need to design a pack that has a 4 series, 2 parallel
configuration.  I am using CR123A cells.  What do I have
to do to make sure that this is safe?
Best regards
Committing Battery with batteries23 Jun 2004 19:39 GMT6
hey I wonder if anyone has ever committed a crime of battery using a set of
batteries (for example, hitting someone with a bag full of batteries, or using
lots of batteries in series to try to electrocute someone). Any references?
Storage of NiMH batteries20 Jun 2004 03:56 GMT3
I have some extra NiMH batteries, 1.5 v. I have some devices that use
these and charge them in-unit, so it's not practical to swap out the
batteries. IOW, I'm using the batteries that are in the units and
following the recommended practice of discharging and then recharging
