Alternative to NiCads18 Jun 2004 23:30 GMT1
Hey, I was wondering why they couldn't use Nickel-Zinc batteries in place of
Nickel-Cadmium ones. It would reduce pollution. Zinc has almost the same
properties and is lighter and more compact too.

Pair of leisure batteries (110Ah and 85Ah) in a motorhome16 Jun 2004 15:27 GMT6
I'm not asking about the vehicle starter battery, but the two leisure
batteries I have fitted to the living space of my motorhome.
When I bought the MH it came with one 110Ah leisure battery, while my wallet
was out I also purchased an 85Ah leisure battery.
Impedence Charger16 Jun 2004 06:03 GMT9
7500 mAH capacity 12 VDC pack of 10 "D" cell NiMHs, used to power
telescope system - motors, electronics, LEDs, etc. Designed and built
a charger, based on two film capacitors to limit the current from AC
line input through a full wave bridge rectifier and then directly into
D sized battery15 Jun 2004 14:54 GMT6
Why don't they start making devices that use any size battery so we could use
those D sized battery that would be way cheaper per unit of energy?
9 volt battery13 Jun 2004 07:07 GMT4
Isn't it amazing that 9 volts is enough to split any salt into its elements,
especially since they are available at almost any grocery store for a few
dollars?
Recharging Batteries13 Jun 2004 01:54 GMT2
Could they make battery chargers that recharge non-rechargeable batteries so
fast (in nanoseconds) that the battery has no chance to leak or explode? Any
opinions?
Rejuvenating SLA's Pt II09 Jun 2004 21:58 GMT7
After adding water (too much at times), and trickling with minor power
supplies, I hit the dude with a vintage standard Montgomery ward auto
battery charger. This started pumping about 1/3 amp through it, at a
high volage (goes up to about 16 or 17 volts, I think). At one point, ...
Question about LiIon adpater charger09 Jun 2004 21:43 GMT1
Are all LiIon battery chargers/adapters like in laptop, palm, cellphone etc
are nothing more than a DC voltage regulated power adapters ? or are they
some sort of special adapters ?
TIA
Charging Li-Ion: 4.2V vs. 4.1V09 Jun 2004 17:22 GMT4
I read (in a Motorola whitepaper
http://www.motorola.com/ies/ESG/testlab/article1.htm) that charging Li-Ions
to a voltage limit of 4.1V instead of 4.2V prolongs cycle life on account of
not getting the maximum capacity out of the battery. The article however
Two questions about li-ion batteries09 Jun 2004 13:17 GMT13
1. I did a bunch of online research on rechargeable li-ion batteries a
couple weeks ago or so and it was noted that li-ion batteries lose
charge slower when at lower temperatures. It was also noted that they
deteriorate (oxidize), slower at lower temperatures. Also noted was the
electrolysis of NaCl solutions08 Jun 2004 22:05 GMT5
There is in Popular Science letters section a question
and answer about the products of electrolysis of
NaCl solutions.
We all know that H2 comes of the cathode, but does
LiPoly protection circuit08 Jun 2004 21:28 GMT4
I need a protection circuit for my lithium polymer battery.  All the circuit
needs to do is prevent the cell voltage from going below 3v.  If the voltage
goes below 3v then the battery must be disconnected to prevent damage caused
by deep-discharge.
Organic Electrochemistry - Glycerin08 Jun 2004 13:38 GMT1
Does anybody have some idea where i can get usable Information for the
industrial electrochemical processing of glycerin and various downstreaming
processes. e.g.: Links for Scripts, Newsgroups, Books
Kind regards,
Charging a batterypack, part 307 Jun 2004 11:16 GMT4
Dear group,
I'm on a role here. Looking around on the net, I found a charger. Here's
