making battery packs12 Dec 2004 01:29 GMT3
Can anyone direct me to sources where I can buy the necessary
materials to make my own Ni-Cd and MiMh battery packs for cordless
phones and two-way radios?
One project I'm thinking about is trying to use my regular battery
Charging Lithium Ion at low temperature10 Dec 2004 14:56 GMT3
The data sheets say not to charge below (for example)
zero degrees C.  Why?  Is it a safety issue?
I know why you can't charge nickel cadmium or NiMH
at cold temperatures, but why lithium ion?
Acid and alkaline at the electrodes09 Dec 2004 23:59 GMT6
Could anyone confirm that at the interface electrodes of a DC biased
electrochemical reaction there is acid at one and alkaline at the other.
If this is two what would the case be with AC - salts??

unusual battery09 Dec 2004 17:55 GMT2
On the beach I found the rubber case for an unusual battery, probably from a
ship or lighthouse.
The case has embossed "air separator primary cell" (or similar), "2000 aH", and
"danger - potassium hydroxide". Size 8x8x12". The top and contents are missing.
"Chloride of Silver Dry Cell"09 Dec 2004 01:19 GMT1
I have here a truly ancient meter which was powered by a genuine
"Chloride of Silver Dry Cell".  This cell, needless to say is of
historical interest only.  What voltage did these cells produce?

hydrogen peroxide interference in DO measurement using polarographic sensor08 Dec 2004 15:56 GMT1
I am employing a polarographic sensor for DO measurement in yeast
fermentations. My work involves use of hydrogen peroxide in yeast
cultivation. The DO sensor is a platinum cathode and silver anode with
KCl/KOH as the electrolyte (pH 13). I would like to know whether

Battery explosions and damage07 Dec 2004 04:46 GMT2
Have anyone else on this board have devices whose battery contacts were rusted,
stained, or damaged by a battery explosion? It happens to me too much and I'd
like some advice on how to avoid it.
Batteries&Scams - Is this logic good?07 Dec 2004 00:11 GMT3
All batteries are rechargeable.
So "rechargeable" batteries are a scam.
Therefore (putting these two statements together) all batteries are scams.
Battery Scam Alert05 Dec 2004 14:32 GMT4
Don't waste your money on cordless phone batteries. Take three energizer
batteries and use wires to connect in series and to the phone outlet.
Connector for small L-Ion battery?04 Dec 2004 18:23 GMT2
I have a new battery tester (see www.westmountainradio.com) . I want
to test a small L-Ion battery used in my Audiovox  AU 9100 cell phone.
The battery is rated at 3.7 volt 1000 mAh.
My problem is making a reliable physical contact to the battery

I am teaching basic electrochemistry (ionics and electrodics) to
undergraduate students. Can anyone suggest a source for excellent
powerpoint slides for these topics?
