Surprised that an unused alkaline-battery-powered  "tap light"
installed in my car died in under a month, I looked for a correlation
between shelf life and temperature.

If I a consumer device such as a cordless drill, can swap out the NiCD cells
and replace them with NiMH cells --- and expect the battery charger to
function properly?
I have a Craftsman 18v cordless drilll with a collection of sub-C cells in
