I need some hints on which factors decide the lifespan of a lead
accumulator, in particular how the materials in the accumulator are

I want to clean grease and carbon deposits from an aluminium and steel
engine head. I know sodium hydroxide is out. Will dilute hydrochloric acid
do any good?
