| Electrolysis question: MgSO4, H20 | 30 Jul 2008 20:58 GMT | 25 |
I built a water electrolysis chamber. I am using MgSO4 in H20 as the electrolyte. I built it with 2 plexiglass boses, each with one side open, that bolt together on the open side, with a small chamber between the 2 boxes,

I posted a topic here titled "Electrolysis question: MgSO4, H20" and I just noticed that it is now posted on natscience.com. Can anyone explain why this happened? It seems like something wrong is going on there, I didn't agree to

Probably naive and ignorant thoughts, but how else does one learn ... 1) The surface area to volume ratio is no greater for a convoluted surface than a flat plate. So how is the sponge electrode an advantage? over a flat plate of the same mass, that is.

| Gasoline vs. battery | 13 Jul 2008 15:52 GMT | 65 |
With gasoline at $4/gal. and electricity at $0.10/kW-hr (residential rate), even a perfect IC engine would have higher fuel costs. $4 buys 40 kW-hr, which is 40 X 3600 BTU = 144,000 BTU. One gallon of gas contains 120,000 BTU. So at 100% efficiency for both, the ...

| Acidic oxygen cathode | 10 Jul 2008 14:07 GMT | 1 |
Is there any example of an oxygen cathode with an acid aqueous electrolyte? The potential would be 1.2 V instead of 0.4 and the problem with carbon dioxide depleting the alkalinity of the electrolyte would be avoided. You would have to use an H+-selective membrane.

I recently replaced my two Interstate SRM27 (85ah) with SRM27X (105ah) and would like a non-destructive test of their ah capacity. I propose using and inverter to load each battery at 10A and measure the terminal voltage with a usb data-logger. Interstate give a table of o/

The reason I want to know is that I overcharged my motorcycle battery and the water is gone. Did the H2SO4 boil away as well? Or is it a solid which precipitated out? I'm going to put my safety glasses on and add distilled water...
