| Beware spoofer posting phony messages! | 04 Dec 2004 14:19 GMT | 8 |
I notice with regret, that my posting a few comments and questions about seismology in this Group, after a long absence, has resulted in someone mimicking my name & address and posting utter nonsense as if I had posted it. Please compare the COMPLETE HEADERS of the silly, ...

| Self Empowerment | 04 Dec 2004 02:54 GMT | 1 |
IF YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW IF THIS WORKS, JUST CHECK OUT VARIOUS NEWSGROUPS FOR YOURSELF, AND JUST SEE HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE DOING THIS. IF THAT DOESN'T CONVINCE YOU, NOTHING WILL! ALSO CHECK THIS OUT WITH THE U.S. POSTAL SERVICE AT 1-800-752-2161 IF YOU ARE UNSURE IF IT ...

| MSH Video Cam at Night | 03 Dec 2004 16:27 GMT | 3 |
To this untrained eye, a relatively large illuminated area is visible through the background noise which looks like it might be a snow covered section of the rear crater wall. If so, there must be a rather bright light within the crater to source this reflection. Or something ...

| MSH Dome Split By 11/27/04 Mag 3.1 EQ | 03 Dec 2004 15:07 GMT | 1 |
Several stories, one of which can be seen @ http://makeashorterlink.com/?L23E219E9 are reporting the new done at MSH was split by the 11/27/04 mag 3.1 EQ. As of this time I have seen nothing regarding this on any of the official MSH Webb Sites, reports by CVO, or

| MSH volcano sounds | 02 Dec 2004 15:52 GMT | 17 |
As promised some time ago in some obscure post in some obscure thread, I have placed audio file version of recordings from two MSH seismographs. These recordings contain harmonic tremors. They sound

| parallel quakes on parallel faults continue | 02 Dec 2004 07:40 GMT | 14 |
I couldn't help noticing today that small quakes in the active Parkfield area of the San Andreas, and the quakes near the 'Oceanic-West Huasna fault zone' (which runs into the San Simeon fault), are continuing to occur parallel to each other. A 2.1 on the 'Huasna' was followed ...

| What is MSH's Dome made of? | 02 Dec 2004 04:46 GMT | 9 |
Looking at the 11/29 pictures, I get two distinct impressions of what MSH's dome is made of. This picture, http://tinyurl.com/5lg93 , looks like an outcrop of rose granite. This picture of the south end however, http://tinyurl.com/3mot8 , looks more like mud.

| Will this quarry explosion yield further small quakes? | 01 Dec 2004 17:35 GMT | 2 |
A quarry explosion of 2.3 magnitude occurred during the noon hour today, 11/29/04; this quarry is evidently RIGHT ON the San Andreas Fault more or less half way between the seismically extremely sensitive and vulnerable towns of Watsonville and San Juan Bautista.

| another microquake, same doggone location! | 01 Dec 2004 10:09 GMT | 2 |
It was no surprise today that the only microquake which occurred in the S. F. Bay Area, the S. F. Peninsula, the Santa Cruz Mountains or the W. side of the Santa Clara Valley down past San Juan Bautista, occurred at precisely the spot I mentioned in an earlier post as deserving ...

| quarry blast area yields S.A. quake? | 01 Dec 2004 10:03 GMT | 2 |
Note that a microquake, evidently precisely on the S. A. fault on the San Francisco Peninsula this morning, is only a mile or two from the little yellow square indicating the site of the series of QUARRY BLASTS (the last one, a mag. 2.1 blast on 11/23), at Kaiser Permanente in the ...

| incomplete data on USGS-NEIC list | 01 Dec 2004 09:57 GMT | 2 |
Just noted that USGS--NEIC still shows only one significant earthquake as having occurred in the world on 11/25/04, (a 5.2 in the Adriatic Sea), which is implausible because most days show an average of 30 to 40 quakes, or so (anywhere from 17 to 92, during the past 30 days!)
