MSH spine about to flip?19 Aug 2005 19:47 GMT3
I was watching the newly released animation of the growth
of the lava spine in MSH and noticed that it appears as if
it might flip directions. The spine has already switched
directions once when the orignal whaleback broke up. Now

Mt. St. Helens, the movie18 Aug 2005 08:11 GMT1
The lava extrusion on Mt.St. Helens is busy as
ever, and there's a movie to show how fast it's

With all the earthquakes, the old mountain's been

My attitude towards prediction17 Aug 2005 09:41 GMT22
Some public statements and private emails recently have prompted
me to write a little about why I say the things I do regarding
earthquake prediction.
I'm sorry if I seem to come across so crass in the newsgroup. I'm
Question from a Newbie about Long Valley Caldera/Mammoth Lakes Area17 Aug 2005 09:25 GMT7
I was wondering, for those who have been observing the Long Valley
Caldera/Mammoth Lakes Area for a long time, does it seems like there
has been a noticiable jump in seismic actvity in the area in the past
week or is this just part of the volcano's cycle?
I predict there will be no more earthquakes this year17 Aug 2005 02:09 GMT10
So, you can all rest now and not worry about earthquakes because
the planet will not experience any more during the rest of 2005.
Enjoy!

Ralph Nesbitt has passed away16 Aug 2005 10:03 GMT11
I received an e-mail from Ralph's wife Judi this evening advising me
Ralph died on June 29th of a massive heart attack.  For those you who
kept in touch you'll know he has been in and out of the hospital
following neck surgery last year, with so much pain and difficulty just
Spent a week poking around.........16 Aug 2005 10:02 GMT1
Just got back from a bit of a holiday in the Columbia River/ Vancuver area.
Went to St. Helens and she was pissed off.... The rangers told us we may
have to move indoors should an ash eruption come to pass...
Alas, no such luck....

Note:  NEIC maps indicate that this earthquake occurred beneath Lake
Nicaragua.  I've not studied much about the tectonics of central America,
although I have studied the native culture there for a number of years.
'Real'-time ticker of EQs (Konfabulator)14 Aug 2005 20:00 GMT2
FYI, in case you didn't know, you can now download a free java
application which (among other things) can put a ticker on your screen
(actually it's a very small application called a Widget) reading out
the latest earthquakes and plotting them on a cell-phone sized screen.
