George's Rock Rocks20 Oct 2005 07:06 GMT3
I received the prized rock Fluorite, in the mail the other day from
George and though I've already expressed my appreciation to him for it,

Remembering On The 16th Anniversary of Loma Prieta19 Oct 2005 05:17 GMT18
I awoke this morning and turned on the TV news, which is something I
don't normally do and today I caught the images of the horror on the
Cypress Structure in Oakland. That night it was rough going in that
neighborhood. A lot of the locals had arrived on the scene early, long
Effect of Bootheel drainage on New Madrid Quakes?19 Oct 2005 01:55 GMT12
Historically, the Missouri Bootheel was a swamp. During the 1811-12
earthquakes, the Bootheel was a swamp. Since 1900, the Bootheel has no
longer been a swamp, but lots of flat agricultural land overlain with a
network of drainage ditches.

Another Deyo 'hit'18 Oct 2005 18:08 GMT14
Stand Deyo is claiming a hit on the Taiwan 6.6 that occured today,
claiming to have 'nailed it' on this Oct 10th map.
On that map he did have a new circle centered right on the epicenter.
But...always a but, isn't there? :)
causes of death from earthquakes18 Oct 2005 08:12 GMT7
How come there are so many deaths from earthquakes in Asia? What are
the most common direct causes of death? Are people being crushed by
bricks? Buried/asphyxiated by clay?
Which kind of building materials are safest in an earthquake? Here's my

U.S.G.S. Fact of the Day17 Oct 2005 08:33 GMT1
Some of the most powerful earthquakes in United States history occurred along
the New Madrid fault in the Mississippi Valley in 1811-1812. The effects of
shaking from these magnitude 8+ earthquakes caused church bells to ring in
Boston, Massachusetts nearly, 1,000 miles away.
