Balls of Fire: Bees carefully cook invaders to death
Susan Milius
Honeybees that defend their colonies by killing wasps with body heat come
within 5°C of cooking themselves in the process, according to a study in
Big animals, big brains - big neurons or more neurons?30 Sep 2005 06:22 GMT10
A question - well, several questions:
Generally, within an order of mammals, say, brain size scales with body size
(by some power law).  Does this mean proportionately larger nerve cells, or
does it mean proportionately more nerve cells?  Or both?

foetus development28 Sep 2005 21:11 GMT3
during development of foetus all the organs and almost whole body is
formed from single embryo. but the germinal layers are extra-embryonic
in origin they develop outside the embryo. why is that they are not
formed with the whole body . if anyone know the answer to this please

How well does this mathematical model mimic the cells properties?27 Sep 2005 16:44 GMT3
I'm been fascinated by the cells ability to self replicate itself. I
made this binary cell model as an mathematical attempt to mimic the
binary division process that occurs in biological cells. This
presentation is a shortened version of this model - a more formal (and

A FUNDAMENTAL ISSUE26 Sep 2005 06:10 GMT70
Is there an assumption among some biologists today that acquired
characteristics are transmitted?
Let me explain my reason for asking:

evolution explains what?26 Sep 2005 06:10 GMT60
Is evolution meant to explain the fossil record or the existence of
man or both or does it matter which?

Future evolution of man24 Sep 2005 23:29 GMT36
I often asked myself as a layman, in which direction mankind will
develop without selection or gene manipulation.  By comparisons from
the animal world I came to the pessimistic conclusion that the journey
must inevitably go toward degeneration.  I wonder whether you view it

can I also use substitution probabilities instaed of "real distances"
by the distance-based reconstruction of phylogenetic trees? How should
gaps (after aligning) be estimate (which value)?

Photolysis Inhibited by Amino Acids24 Sep 2005 23:29 GMT1
okay even if AA  helps in inhibiting photolysis
i would like to know what are the ways a normal genetic material say
in our cells effected by photolysis. how can dna be photolysed under
normal conditions
