How quickly does the gene pool deteriorate when the weak survive?30 Jan 2007 19:30 GMT37
How bad is our gene pool in the west where the weak have as many
children as the strong? I look at the British royal family for example.
They are quite ugly and not that bright.
Does low intelligence, ugliness, bad teeth, etc  become prevalent very
Book review: In Gods We Trust (Scott Atran)29 Jan 2007 18:55 GMT3
[moderator's note: This sort of makes me itchy, but I think as
a review, it doesn't cross any bright lines. Think carefully
before you followup to it, however. - JAH]

Reason Vs Endemic Evasion: The Idiotic Evolution Of Human Obesity29 Jan 2007 06:20 GMT3
Does anybody here doubt that chronic evasion enforced by tribal conformity
can win for a long time against empirically based reason? Have the eating
habits of the average USA citizen reached rock bottom after obesity has
finally (whew what a battle) become acknowledged as a chronic ...
Do men really not like to have children?27 Jan 2007 18:04 GMT8
I've heard people say that men dont want children. They just want to
have sex. I guess ideally they would like to impregnate a woman and
move on and not be burdened by raising the child.
Say "cheese," viruses27 Jan 2007 18:04 GMT1
This old layman has enthusiastically taken the "stance" that the BEST
"solutions" to evo-biology "issues"  have arisen and ARE  arising from the
input from multiple disciplines.
Does the field need the input of philosophers?  Resoundingly YES!
Mules to MICROBES26 Jan 2007 18:35 GMT5
This old layman just got to musing this morning about how GENERALIZING about
almost anything is risky if, that is, one wishes to be somewhat "right" in
what he asserts.
It could not have been more than a year ago that I read the flat out

Evolution from aquatic to terrestrial24 Jan 2007 17:38 GMT3
I have a question
Fish, amphibians and reptiles represent the the complete transition
from an aquatic way of life to a terrestrial one. What important
features developed along the way to allow this transition to occur?
A call for book recommendations, and the old "Selfish Gene" controversy23 Jan 2007 20:33 GMT21
I recently set out on a quest to familiarise myself on at least an
educated layman's level with various sciences, such as relativity,
quantum physics, evolutionary biology, and so on. A short while ago, I
read Dawkins's "The Selfish Gene", which I found eloquent, informative,

[moderator's note: I'm sure I posted this already, but it
popped up in the queue again today, so to be on the safe side,
I'm posting it again. - JAH]

investigation, definitions & logic22 Jan 2007 20:02 GMT2
Ask a few people what "forensics" means, and (thanks to certain gory TV
dramas that spoil your appetite right in the middle of your evening meal, if
you eat in front of the tube, that is) most of them will say that it has to
do with
What factors account for people having differing abilities to remember things?22 Jan 2007 20:02 GMT2
Some people can remember information very easy. They are also able to
process it and recall it almost effortlessly. Would a smart chimp have
a better memory than a slow human? or do chimps have better memories
than us?
rioting22 Jan 2007 20:02 GMT1
A friend whose daughter is a Fulbright professor in Greece informs that
there is rioting going on there, torching  of motor vehicles, breaking of
windows and clashes between citizens and police... having something to do
with government plans to allow private universities there.
