"Every educated person since Darwin has labelled himself an
'evolutionist'. But a real evolutionist must apply the idea of
evolution to his own forms of thinking. Elementary logic, founded in
the period when the idea of evolution did not yet exist, is evidently

Robot Evolution17 Jan 2007 17:52 GMT62
Note: As I read this, assuming what Hans Moravec says is accurate, I
wondered how and if we can genetically keep up with the robot
revolution. Certainly a fourth generation and beyond robot would exceed
us at our current genetic "level". There is talk of the doubling of

In all DNA molecules (RNA too) the same temperature opens up/denatures
the same regions. And because of base stacking and hydrogen bond
differences, A-T sections will open/denature at lower temperatures
than G-T sections. With mixed sections somewhere in between.

New Study Sheds Light On 'Dark States' In DNA
Science Daily - Chemists at Ohio State University have probed an unusual
high-energy state produced in single nucleotides -- the building blocks of
DNA and RNA -- when they absorb ultraviolet (UV) light.
Ventists - what about UV repair? (resend)13 Jan 2007 19:07 GMT16
Ventists,
Here's a possible clue to helping your OOL scenario.
I'll start with a quote:
"From unicellular organisms to man, all cells have a (UV) repair system.

Foks,
I've received posts lately from a couple of people with munged email
addresses. I've rejected their posts, but I'm unable to contact them to
tell them why, and the posts keep coming.
Haldene's Dilemma (beginner question)12 Jan 2007 17:46 GMT4
This is an absolute beginner question. I just cannot get the problem
from the beginning.
"In the introduction to The Cost of Natural Selection Haldane writes
that it is difficult for breeders to simultaneously select all the
Does Darwinian Evolution cancel out Birth Control Efforts12 Jan 2007 17:46 GMT4
I've wondered for a long time if Darwinian Evolution cancels out birth
control efforts. In relation to Malthus Darwin wrote, "In October 1838,
that is, fifteen months after I had begun my systematic inquiry, I
happened to read for amusement Malthus on Population, and being well
