I built a new reactor with another transformer bobbin. A static discharge
starts the reaction which then carries on without any adjustments.

I got a trace on the oscillscope when I moved the tube, this trace was
stable it is not a spike, the reaction is started by a static discharge but
carries on for several minutes if I keep the tube still. So it is not a
transient but a process going on in the low pressure tube.
