I am looking for a standard method for using a penetrometer for testing
the compaction of soil. I would furstly like to know how to deal with
soil moisture effects and secondly whether there is a standard method
for converting this info to soil bulk density.

We live in Eastern Utah in an area known as the Uintah Basin.  I suppose if
you used your imagination it could look like a bowl?
But, what is the difference between a basin and a valley?  Is it just
