Vorticity in the Jetstream and Surface Weather: The Chicken and the Egg31 Oct 2004 23:27 GMT1
So which one is it?  I understand that there is an interplay between
ridges and troughs in the jetstream and cyclonic or anticylonic
behavior on the surface...  highs and lows are either cut off or fed
by corresponding lows and highs in the jetsream.  But are the surface
weather near equator30 Oct 2004 17:45 GMT7
I was thinking about what it would be like near the equator.  I think
high noon would occur directly overhead on the equinox dates, but
would drift away up to 23.5 degrees at the solstice dates.
With 12 hour days year round, is daylight savings time non-existant

Canadian hurricanes28 Oct 2004 02:39 GMT1
The maritime provinces get the odd hurricane....mostly lower category
stuff and lots of tropical storms but does anyone know if Ontario has
ever had a valid hurricane within it's borders?  There is often talk
of Hurricane Hazel from the fifties due to damage and deaths in the
REALITIES OF GLOBAL WARMING25 Oct 2004 12:10 GMT2
Ok..Taking a look at all of what we call "Global warming"..What is a
warming process?.. It is condensation, which is going from a water
vapor to a liquid.  If you go from condensation to freezing you will
add more heat to the atmosphere. There by adding more ice not melting

Hurricane Season21 Oct 2004 07:14 GMT3
I don't recall a lot of hurricane seasons ending so suddenly in
early October after such activity in August/September, so I was
wondering....
Are SSTs in the Atlantic still abnormally warm, or did the
Meteorologists! Stop it! There is no hectopascal.20 Oct 2004 14:11 GMT14
How long will meteorologists keep using "hectopascals"? What's
wrong with using the SI unit of kilopascals? Surely everybody
knows that they are only using hectopascals because they can
pretend that they are the old-timey "millibars". If they want
Prevailing Westerlies18 Oct 2004 23:13 GMT1
Hello, I am in a Meteorlogy class and I am having trouble
understanding the prevailing westerlies.  If the Coriolis effect is
moving the trade winds from east to west in the northern hemisphere,
why do the prevailing westerlies move from the west to the east.

Warmed up a bit -- summer is here?15 Oct 2004 14:34 GMT7
After a couple of relatively cool nights for October, the grass min
jumped 9C overnight (10C to 19C).  Storm birds (koels) calling the
past 48 hours too (the channel-billed cuckoos have been around for a
couple of weeks though).
