I try to find total number of discovered hadrons (including resonances) but after 3 hours of googling I surrender. Particle Data Group http://pdg.lbl.gov/ seems to have most comprehensive database, but they don't provide info

I just ran across mention of an article (by Marcus Chown?) about splitting an electron. Could not find the article or any followup info. Was this some kind of hoax?

I hope someone can answer this simple question for me, a layman: If a star can only produce elements up to the periodic number of Fe, and those heavier than Fe are produced in supernovae, how can WE produce even HEAVIER elements in particle accelerators? It would seem
