Laser safety eyewear?30 Sep 2004 21:45 GMT1
I've finished rough alignments on the Ti:Sa laser our lab received as
a donation and I'm ready to pump the laser for optimizing the output.
The only problem is finding laser eyewear to protect against both the
argon pump beam and the femtosecond broadband NIR output of the Ti:Sa.
nitrogen laser30 Sep 2004 17:47 GMT4
Having halfway built a flowing gas nitrogen laser, id like to trade a
bit of information.
For anyone that was uncertain, doorknob capacitor DO work! currently
my design has 8 caps at 630 pF each, 4 down each side, and currently
Pls recommand the references for laser manufacturing30 Sep 2004 17:43 GMT1
We have a plan to manufacture Nd:YAG laser system.
So we would like to buy some references for laser manufacturing.
Please recommand references.

looking for a polarizing filter30 Sep 2004 13:23 GMT2
Hi, looking for a circular polarising filter, about 43mm diameter, screw
mount, but diameter and mounting not critical as we can machine a
mount.  What's important is high light transmission.

sum of signal noise ratio?30 Sep 2004 12:43 GMT3
If you have two system, one SN is a, another is b. If they are summed, what is SN?
Assuming they can be summed for same properties.

Refractive index change with pressure30 Sep 2004 12:02 GMT2
Does anyone know or have references to articles/information about refractive
index dependency on pressure in solids (glasses, quartz)?
For gases there exist models which describe this dependency, but for solids
I couldn't find anything so far. I know that stress induced ...
Lens with fixed focal30 Sep 2004 09:44 GMT11
I look for a 35mm SLR Nikon mount lenses for a Fuji S2 with a very
particular requeriment, focal lenght must be constant when focusing at

(photogrammetry).
Burn spot on DPSS aperture??30 Sep 2004 02:08 GMT4
I purchased a LambdaPro 80mW DPSS about a year ago.
While having been pleased with the performance, even though not really
using it much more than maybe 20 or so hours total ON time, I've
noticed a "spot" of some sort on the aperture.  I have some knowledge

Groan: Lasers blamed for pilot's vision problems...29 Sep 2004 23:43 GMT1
Have you seen this?

Sounds pretty iffy.  Some ex-Navy pilot is claiming that his vision
was damaged by a laser while he was on a recon mission.  Of course,

Gigabit over multimode fiber patch cable?29 Sep 2004 19:19 GMT3
I'm a real newbie when it comes to working with fiber optics, but I want
to do some testing of some Gigabit ethernet equipment, and was looking
for a patch cable.  I was in a local Microcenter today, and noticed that
they carried some SC-to-SC cables such as the following:

Automated counting of cells without interfering with their biology??29 Sep 2004 15:18 GMT5
I need to count live cells in a microplate with an inverted
microscope.  I know that DAPI, Hoechst and a host of other dyes and
stains can be utilized.  however, I need to find a dye that is not
toxic, won't interfere with the biology of the cells, and won't
