Seeking advice on cleaning PCAOM19 Nov 2004 22:21 GMT10
I've just been checking over my recently acquired PCAOM before putting a
beam through it and I can see a slight haze on the surfaces. What can be
safely used to clean it (it's an MVM unit, if it matters)?
TIA,
How can I calibrate a home made power meter?19 Nov 2004 18:37 GMT12
I'm building a home made laser power meter using some reversed biased
photo diodes hooked up to some lm324 op amps. One of the diodes will
have the beam directly on it while the other will have light reflected
on it via two microscope slides (in case I ever manage anything with

Abbreviation for micro-metre19 Nov 2004 16:39 GMT4
I'm on a mailing list for some microscopy related journals, and have noted
that scale bars included with electron micrographs are being labelled in
"mm" (in the accompanying text), presumably to indicate a micro-metre.  I
always thought that a "mm" = millimetre, and that ...
Digital microscope to look at a single hair19 Nov 2004 16:36 GMT9
I should develop an particular application under Windows using Visual
Studio. I need a digital microscope, connected to the PC, to make an
image analysis of a single hair, which has a thickness of 60-70 um.
Do you have any suggestion to choose a digital microscope not so
digital camera question19 Nov 2004 16:32 GMT12
OK - I looked on the newsgroups available here but could not find one
devoted to digital camera usage.  (Maybe I just can't see too good today
and I missed it.)
I will do the 'right thing' and also do a web search for my question,

Aluminum Oxynitride - Amazing Optical Material18 Nov 2004 18:01 GMT4
I note that the material aluminum oxynitride spinel, amazing simply
because it _is_ transparent, given its hardness and durability, occupies
an interesting location on a diagram of refractive index versus
dispersion; 58.1 dispersion, 1.79 index of refraction.
