| laser documentary | 31 Dec 2004 20:54 GMT | 1 |
I am an independent producer in North Texas, and I am currently working on a documentary looking at the history, current uses, and potential future uses of lasers. This documentary, which I hope to market to PBS or a science-related cable channel, will also include

| Confocal image sequences / stack images | 31 Dec 2004 11:08 GMT | 1 |
I'm in need of a stand set of z-stack images to test my volume rendering algorithm. I'm sure there must be standard set of images / test image sequences available for building volumes. I spent quite sometime in googling, but didn't find a good set of images. If anyone

| Zeiss ICM 405 | 30 Dec 2004 20:48 GMT | 6 |
I just bought a Zeiss ICM 405 off Ebay. Listed "sold as seen" by a vendor who "knows nothing about microscopes" meant it was a big risk. But after asking several questions, I decided break-up value would recoup some loss if it turned out a real lemon and took the plunge.

| noise reduction in laser | 29 Dec 2004 17:21 GMT | 2 |
I want to reduce noise in my fiber laser. The RIN is around -85dB/Hz and i want to reduce it. I have read about negative feedback loop to reduce noise. What i didn't understand in that is how do we determine how much light to split to put it in the splitter. I mean whether to

| Discovery of UV from XRF sources | 29 Dec 2004 16:55 GMT | 13 |
For the first time ever, UV dominated optical spectrum was detected from solid X-ray fluorescent (XRF) sources present as salts (AMC 2084,UK). http://www.geocities.com/raomap/discovery1.html

| Calibration | 29 Dec 2004 14:42 GMT | 18 |
Is it possible to buy a scale to put on the slide in order to measure the image? My eyepieces don't look as if they will support a reticle. I suppose the problem with putting a scale on the slide might be that at high magnification the scale and the object won't be in focus at ...

| 2W 808nm High Heat Load laser diodes on eBay | 29 Dec 2004 02:45 GMT | 1 |
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3863518221 We've got several of these available. I checked them out using an SDL-820 driver and they produce rated power at well under the 3.1A rated current and are about 810nm @ 20C. I believe these are the pump diode

| Light, Heat, Vacuum | 28 Dec 2004 19:05 GMT | 10 |
While a light bulb filament is powered, the glass bulb is very hot. I would expect very little heat transfer from the filament to the glass through the small amount of gas within the bulb. Is the glass heating due to absorption of infrared?

| Can't find microbes in lake water | 28 Dec 2004 16:47 GMT | 13 |
I've been trying to find any sort of microbes in samples of lake water. I've taken samples from the water surface, the muddy bottom, and floating plants. I've seen a grand total of two single celled animals.

| dispersion in prism | 27 Dec 2004 23:10 GMT | 9 |
I am writing a forward ray tracer to model dispersion, now in a prism, later in diamonds. For the moment I use a triangle with refraction angle of 60 degrees (I work in 2D now) and I work in Java I want to know if my setup is correct, because I get a strange effect.

| Advice about Prior microscope | 27 Dec 2004 20:38 GMT | 5 |
I wonder if any of you are familiar with this microscope, which I've just bought on ebay. The guy who sold me it doesn't seem to want to answer my his emails - can't blame him I suppose. It's made by Prior. It has two eyepiece lenses, x6 & x10; and three object
