Does anyone know what's involved in replacing the origianl mercury

no longer available and I heard of others replacing them with 9V
transistor radio batteries.

UV laser pointers?21 Mar 2005 04:21 GMT1
Does anyone make UV laser pointers?  I'm thinking it would be cool if you
could have a sinister beam that can make some objects suddenly fluoresce,
but you can't see the dot trailing across the view.

anti-counterfeit holograms20 Mar 2005 23:54 GMT4
Hey, I've recently bought Saxby's book, 'Practical Holgraphy'. i'm
reading through it. one thing i've noticed however, is that it doesn't
cover (to much extent) the types of holograms that seem to be most
commonly used in counterfeit prevention.
IR laser pointers you can feel?20 Mar 2005 05:52 GMT3
Are there IR laser pointers powerful enough that you can feel a spot of
heat?  That would make a pretty sinister prank weapon.  ;-)
Fiber optic question20 Mar 2005 01:06 GMT4
I've found some of the fiber optic used for fiber optics communication.
I'm trying to use it to do some point sources for testing optics and am

Thin Lens Gaussian Beam Program19 Mar 2005 02:39 GMT3
I found this program and like most programs it assumes the user has a
modicum of understanding in its use, which I don't. Could someone take
the time to enlighten me?
Thanks

White lights appearing red at a diatance18 Mar 2005 10:39 GMT8
As a (sort of ) follow-up to my attentuation of lights thread, I
thought I'd ask another question. I know that the light of a setting
sun appears red/orange, and I was wondering if the same effect can be
seen in other lights, such as incandescent lightbulbs at a distance?
