| Grating coupler question | 19 Apr 2005 16:09 GMT | 4 |
I have a question regarding a grating coupler which is aimed to work as a sensor for refractive index measurements. Is a grating with (uncoated) sinusoidal grooves appropriate to work as reflection grating? Or do gratings with grooves of sinusoidal shape have

| Advice regarding objectives | 19 Apr 2005 08:10 GMT | 4 |
I have a Meiji ML2000 compound binocular microscope that has three objectives fitted but room for one more. I'd like to acquire a few more objectives to give a greater range, such as x5, x50, x100. Although I can use a microscope reasonably competently (all the same, I admit to ...

| LASIK eye surgery, starburst | 19 Apr 2005 08:09 GMT | 4 |
In an eye that has been treated with LASIK surgery, there is a center area (about 6mm) that has perfect refractive correction. Then there is a transition zone (about 2mm) which has a sliding correction from perfect to the old (say -5 diopters). Now, if there's a bright light (and ...

| non-linear optics question | 18 Apr 2005 13:04 GMT | 4 |
1064nm is doubled by a KTP or KDP to get 532nm. suppose 8W of 1064nm can produce 4W of 532nm, then 4W of 1064 will produce 2W of 532nm? Just a simple linear relationship? Not sure about the answer.

We have been using Vantico 2015 (2 part epoxy made by Araldite) for bonding lenses into cells for a year or two. It is low shrinkage almost odourless, and about a 24 hr full cure. However, there is evidence of bleed in the vicinity of the glue line, visible as a bloom on the lens ...
