Grating coupler question19 Apr 2005 16:09 GMT4
I have a question regarding a grating coupler which is aimed to work as a
sensor for refractive index measurements.
Is a grating with (uncoated) sinusoidal grooves appropriate to work as
reflection grating? Or do gratings with grooves of sinusoidal shape have
how to align Gaussian mirror19 Apr 2005 16:06 GMT2
Accidently moved Gaussian mirror in the Nd:YAG Q-switched laser and
forgot the original position. The 1064nm is supposed to pass the
Gaussian mirror  output coupler. What is the relative postion between
the mirror and the horizontal polarized 1064nm?
beam combiner19 Apr 2005 09:03 GMT1
I am wondering about how three chip DLP projectors combine the beams to
form one image. is it just a beam splitter used in reverse?

Advice regarding objectives19 Apr 2005 08:10 GMT4
I have a Meiji ML2000 compound binocular microscope that has three
objectives fitted but room for one more. I'd like to acquire a few more
objectives to give a greater range, such as x5, x50, x100. Although I can
use a microscope reasonably competently (all the same, I admit to ...
LASIK eye surgery, starburst19 Apr 2005 08:09 GMT4
In an eye that has been treated with LASIK surgery, there is a center area
(about 6mm) that has perfect refractive correction. Then there is a
transition zone (about 2mm) which has a sliding correction from perfect to
the old (say -5 diopters). Now, if there's a bright light (and ...

I just got my March 2005 Photonics Showcase, a supplement
for Photonics Spectra, and found an advertisement for >5mW
green laser pointers.

non-linear optics question18 Apr 2005 13:04 GMT4
1064nm is doubled by a KTP or KDP to get 532nm. suppose 8W of 1064nm
can produce 4W of 532nm, then 4W of 1064 will produce 2W of 532nm? Just
a simple linear relationship? Not sure about the answer.
Microwave Laser to audio?18 Apr 2005 04:50 GMT14
does anyone know if microwave lasers or some frequencey can
pulse the air at audio frequencies and generate sound?
And does anyone know how thick steel you would need to deflect
such a beam?

HP 5501B17 Apr 2005 17:45 GMT5
Does anyone know what's needed to get this to power up with the laser
turned on?  I applied +/-15 VDC and the +/-15 V LEDs come on but nothing
much else.  There is no power to the HeNe laser power supply.
Thanks.
low shrinkage, low-bleed, low-out-gas epoxies?17 Apr 2005 12:51 GMT7
We have been using Vantico 2015 (2 part epoxy made by Araldite) for bonding
lenses into cells for a year or two. It is low shrinkage almost odourless,
and about a 24 hr full cure. However, there is evidence of bleed in the
vicinity of the glue line, visible as a bloom on the lens ...
